Trips For Kids—Ladysmith is a club founded through Ladysmith
High School. The mission of our TFK chapter is to provide mountain bike and nordic ski outings, as well
as environmental education, for high school aged students who would not otherwise be exposed to such activities.
As part of these outings, lessons in personal responsibility and achievement will be taught, and an ethic of environmental
stewardship will be strengthened through the simple act of having fun in nature.
We have identified several desirable outcomes that are obtainable through the activities of
this Trips For Kids Chapter:
1) We believe that this program will increase
the number of at-risk and low income students who
participate in extracurricular events. This effort will ultimately increase these students ownership in their school furthering their academic and social development.
2) We believe that this program will help to increase our student’s personal responsibility
and sense of accomplishment. As participants of this program students will learn how to successfully conquer
challenges on the trail and how through hard work and determination, similar challenges can be conquered in other areas of
their life.
3) Research supports that
one of the most effective strategies in developing a strong environmental ethic is engaging youth in challenging and fun outdoor
activities. This Trips For Kids chapter will help students realize the inherent beauty and worth of our
natural resources.
Ladysmith is located
in Rusk Country and while as a country we are rich in natural resources, we consistently rate as one of the poorest counties
in Wisconsin. As a result, many of our students would never be able to realize these opportunities without
the support of Trips For Kids
National and our local contributors.
